Dany Bédar is originally from Val d'Or, in Abitibi. At 19, he moves to the metropolis with the intent of carving a place for himself as a singer-songwriter.
Determined, he starts his quest on the English side. For a few years, he explores many different avenues in the world of night clubs alongside different musical ensembles.
In 1999, the members of the band La Chicane ask him to join them on tour as their guest bass player. As a result of instant chemistry between Dany Bédar and the members of the band, he soon collaborates to the composition of a few of the band’s songs. He writes the song Tu m'manques, which quickly tops the charts.
Dany wins 3 Félix awards and 1 Juno as a member of La Chicane.
Although he is happy being part of the band, Dany Bédar decides to undertake a solo career. In February 2002, he launches his first album entitled Fruit de ma récente nuit blanche, which sells close to 100,000 copies. This first album is full of surprises, including a duet with Boom Desjardins and the participation of Patrick Normand.
Soon after, Dany gets involved in the Boombox project, a show tour accross the province in the company of Boom Desjardins and Richard Pelland. Within the context of this series of shows, he offers Boom Desjardins the song Je reviens chez-nous, which reaches #1 on all the charts. This song contributed to the sale of over 20,000 copies of the album Boombox.
In the fall of 2003, he produces the singer Anny Carrier’s record, which includes the #1 duet hit Reviens-moi.
In the winter of 2004, he continues his tour with a series of sold out concerts, both in theatres as well as at summer festivals. He is the artist that attracts the biggest crowd during the 2004 edition of Les FrancoFolies de Montréal. In fact, over 30,000 of his fans rally around the big outdoor scene of Ste-Catherine Street. His album’s second single, Y'a du monde, reaches #1 on the Top 100 BDS francophone for over 4 weeks.
Dany Bédar gave of his best in his second album, Écoute-moi donc, co-produced with the complicity of Pierre Rémillard. This album brings out Dany’s huge creative talent.
Dany Bédar finishes as the big winner of the last edition of the Gala de l’ADISQ 2005, winning a Félix for pop-rock album of the year and one for male singer of the year. His second record, Écoute-moi donc, simply confirms his greatness. With sales exceeding 130,000 copies and a sold out tour, he is hereafter considered one of the greatest singers of his generation.
In the spring of 2006, Dany publishes his third album, Acoustique … en studio! It becomes an instant success with the critics as well as the population and reaches #1 among sales from the first week. In 2007, he publishes the DVD Y’a du monde, in which he delivers an amazing performance. Aside from being one of Québec’s favourite singers, he is also one of the most valued singer-songwriters by his peers, with over 11 songs reaching #1 on the charts.
Recently, Dany Bédar also worked in collaboration with Isabelle Boulay, Roch Voisine, Marc Dupré and the French singer, Nolwenn Leroy (winner of Star Académie II France, over 1,000,000 sold) as well as with Joel Kroeker.
Some believed that Dany was taking a break but, in reality, he was the drummer of the band La Brassée. He travelled through Québec with his band, performing at many festivals and in many theatres, remaining a little more in obscurity this time around.
Dany is now back with his third solo album entitled III, available in stores on September 30, 2008. It is an opus, in which we will rediscover this guitarist’s talents as well a more bluesy sound like you would never have expected.
