About Us

DEJA'S SPIRIT

We never stop! was the leitmotiv put forward by DKDD. This slogan is still in accordance with DEJA's spirit. It is therefore still used as this record company, talent agency, publishing house and artist management's rallying cry. DEJA is more than a label; it's a passion.

It is essential to specify that DKDD has always been in search of composers of popular music - in the purest sense of the word, without any prejudice to the style and type of music - destined to the general public. DEJA signs and persists in the same vein, with the same general spirit. In fact, Pierre Foglia's below-mentioned quote reflects perfectly our own line of thought.

As and just as much as cultivated culture, like fine arts, general culture is what a nation is built upon, a passage way, not of a tradition but of a way of life. I never understood very well why they were in conflict with each other: one constitutes the spirit of the people and the other, their heart.1 - Pierre Foglia - The contempt for general culture, published in La Presse, Saturday, June 22, 2002.

In 6 years of existence, DKDD sold over 1,000,000 albums, thousands of tickets for different shows, produced many video clips and won many prizes. Favorites were adopted, embraces and masses of high fives were also exchanged!

DEJA'S MUSIC

DEJA helps develop the career of the best Québécois, Canadian or even international artists by offering them customized support, an extended public exposure platform as well as the possibility of being part of a community fueled on passion.

The DEJA community: passion + talent + creativity + truth + loyalty = DEJA

THE DEJA COMMUNITY

Since she began her job as President, Janie Duquette has given herself the objective of molding a unique character for the company, that of the community. In the same way, artists, artisans and composers help one another, rub shoulders, compose and get on stage in a spirit of conviviality (Boom Desjardins launched Dany Bédar and Richard Pelland's careers; Dany Bédar participated in the pre-production of Jonas' album and produced Anny Carrier's album; Boom Desjardins and Jennifer Aubry sang with Jonas on his album Éponyme; Dany Bédar produced Le Dernier Mot for Nolwenn Leroy...)

1. Quote translated from French.

DEJA intends on pursuing this progression with the one and same enthusiasm. As of this day, DEJA would like to present itself as a leader in the world of show business. DEJA must no longer be considered as a name of the future. On the contrary, DKDD/DEJA has proven itself and deserves to be recognized as a key player. Its expansion is real and its accomplishments are concrete!

DKDD: 15 YEARS ALREADY

15 years ago, the DKDD signature carved itself a place on the cultural scene with the founding of DKD! Spectacle, an idea brought forward by the Montréal producer Donald K. Donald. DKD! Spectacle's first mission was to become a firm specialized as an agent and producer. Céline Dion became the first singer to work with DKD! Spectacle. Along the years, the company became a leader in the industry. Many artists found the key of their success in a partnership with DKD. From that moment on, these initials would be respected and seen as a guarantee of success. In May 1999, Janie Duquette's arrival enabled the company to shape its personality. This young attorney, specialized in the field of entertainment, pursued DKD! Spectacle's development by creating new objectives. The firm opened new divisions: DKD Disques (record production) and DKD Musique (record publishing). La Chicane's first album, En Catimini, appearing on DKD Disques' label, was crowned with success. In fact, it sold over 350,000 copies. Afterwards, 2 other record labels were founded: BoomBox (with Boom Desjardins as the artistic director) and DKDO (dedicated to special projects). Since then, DKD! Spectacle gave way to DKDD, adding a D as a nod in the direction of the company president's last name, Duquette. Since then, DKDD has been standing on its own two feet and regroups all of the company's entities: record labels (DKD Disques, BoomBox, DKDO), the show division (DKD! Spectacle), production (DKD Musique) and, the most recent addition, a comedy branch (DKDDrôle).

DKDD/DEJA is a unique entity. Janie Duquette and her team left the offices of Donald K. Donald located in the West of Montréal to put down their roots in the East of the city! That is proof of a real sense of belonging with Montréal and of the pursuit of a beautiful love story with Québec.
